Athens
You might be forgiven to think Athens doesn’t measure up to your expectations, but only if you haven’t made an effort to get to know it – just to because from where you stand all buildings seem like ugly, greyish concrete boxes, the traffic noise is deafening, the air as polluted as it gets and the heat is debilitating, it doesn’t mean this is all there is to it. So, if you decide to leave for the islands as fast as you can, it’s your loss.
Mykonos
Located in Greece, Mykonos is famous for its cosmopolitan character, which keeps attracting many tourists. One of the most attractive features of the island is its nightlife, which is made interesting with a variety of nightclubs and bars. The sandy beaches of the island are very captivating, and shall surely leave anyone smitten.
Santorini
Situated approximately 200 kilometers southeast off mainland Greece, Santorini, also known as Thera, is the largest of a cluster of islands that also bears the same name. According to history, these chains of islands are the remains of an enormous volcanic explosion. Santorini is famous all over the world for its eye-catching scenery and is famous for hosting wedding ceremonies.
Meteora
If you believe that you have traveled all over the world and have seen everything that is worth viewing, you should visit Meteora and view its unique clifftop monasteries. It is a guarantee that the awesome sights of these holy buildings will leave you awestruck. Situated near the Pindus Mountains and the Pineios River, Meteora lies to the northwest edge of the Plain of Thessaly.
Corfu
Situated near the coast of Thesprotia, Greece, Corfu is a Greek island, and is the second largest of all islands in the Ionian Sea. A part of the Corfu Prefecture, this island has a strong connection with Greek history. In fact, its Greek name, Korkyra is associated with Asopos, an important Greek river and Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. The golden sandy beaches of Corfu attract tourists by the thousands who are also amazed by the impressive landscape of this mountainous island.
Athos
Historians and those who have a penchant for medieval art treasures will love visiting the monasteries based in Mt. Athos Peninsula. With a population of approximately 1,400 monks, Mount Athos, politically known as the Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain in Greece, lies on the eponymous peninsula of Macedonia, Greece. It is famous among tourists all over the world for its eastern orthodox monasteries. There are twenty such monasteries over there.
